Dr Goh Yaw Chong is a general surgeon with subspecialty practice in laparoscopic, gastro-intestinal (GI) and cancer surgery, advanced endoscopy and endoluminal therapy. He has particular interest in the treatment of gallbladder and common bile duct conditions (eg. stones), abdominal hernia, early detection of tumour or cancer in the digestive system and luminal therapy eg. stenting for obstruction or intervention for bleeding.

He graduated from Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore in 1992, and was conferred Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1996. He furthered advanced his training in the surgical subspecialties of gastro-intestinal and hepatobiliary surgery in the University Department of Surgery, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and laparoscopic surgery in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

He was awarded a scholarship by the National Medical Research Council for translational research in medical sciences and was conferred PhD in Immunology by the University of Edinburgh in 2005. He continues to be heavily involved in academic work and interdisciplinary collaboration.

He is Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology for Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and visiting consultant for teaching to Singapore General Hospital.

He served as Core Faculty of Surgery Programme for Singhealth Residency and has been honoured with Outstanding Faculty Award consecutively in 2013 and 2014. He is recognised for more than 20 years of public service in Singapore General Hospital with the Long Service Award. He has also been on the Council of the College of Surgeons Singapore since 2016.
